Hi Michael,
Thanks for providing this website. I am thrity now and I have had Darts on the brain since I was around 12. Dreams of becoming a world champion were shattered at the age of 20 when I became paralysed in a car accident. Despite now being wheelchair bound and having given up darts for 10years I have started to peg them again have entered a competition in my native Killarney. Dreams of becoming world champion aren’t quiet back on board but right now I am happing in trying to give the local boys a run for their money. My love for darts became reignited by the death of my uncle before Christmas. He also always had darts on the brain and was well renounced and accomplished in the pub scene in London in the 60th 70th and 80th. It was emotional seeming his flighted darts in the top pocket of his jacket in the funeral home. I am writing today as I wish to try and save some others my regrets in Darts and to make a small proposal. My regret in Darts is that despite my uncle’s achievements in Darts in the pub scene and my own standards before the age of 20, we never played on the big scene. This is because of a lack of awareness of an organisation in this country. As a youth playing in the pubs of Kerry I was certainly unaware of a youths competition and would certainly have taken part had I been aware. Nowadays a youth in Kerry doest even have the chance to develop in Darts that I had because of the underage rule in Pubs, however it would be a small thing for "darts in Ireland" to post a notice in pubs during competitions to publicise the organisation. The Murphy Cup played each year in Killarney is I believe the biggest tournament in Kerry with over 170 players entering each year. The draw took place on January 3rd and the competition begins this week. Is it possible for the organisation to post an advert publicising the opportunities for Dart players in Ireland other than the pub scene locally? The advert could also publicise the fact that ye are trying to get a ranking tournament and what the organisation is try to achieve. Youths dads might also see the notice which will help develop the youth’s scene.
Thanks
John Leane
